OUR VALLEYS
A five-day itinerary immersed in the nature surrounding the waters of Lake Maggiore.
From Mottarone, the most famous panoramic terrace over the lakes and the Alps, to the more or less famous valleys: the wild Anzasca Valley at the foot of Monte Rosa, the ancient Antigorio Valley and the picturesque Vigezzo Valley.
Day 1: Arrival at the hotel, check-in and dinner.
Day 2: Discovering mount Mottarone.
Departure in the direction of Gignese, from where the hike starts with a nature guide. The route offers many paths of historical and scenic interest, passing through beech and birch forests and old alpine pastures. Arriving at the summit, after approx. 3 hours of walking and with an altitude difference of 687 meters, you can admire the beautiful panorama: from the Po Valley to the Alps, from the peak of Monte Rosa to the 7 lakes!
Possibility of a tasting lunch in one of the huts-restaurant on the summit.
Followed by a circular walk to the summit and return by bus.
Day 3: Macugnaga e la Valle Anzasca.
The Anzasca Valley. Today we will reach Macugnaga at the foot of Mount Rosa: a small mountain village with a rich history and tradition that attract thousands of visitors every year. By cable car we will reach the glacier, for those who remains in Macugnaga there is the possibility to visit the Walser village or the Gold Mine.
There are plenty of routes and the guide will decide the one most suitable for the group.
Day 4: “Canyon” of Piedmont in Antigorio Valley
Today we will reach the Antigorio Valley. Our itinerary will bring us to the three main Orridi (gorges): the Southern gorge (the most spectacular one, ca. 200m long and 30m deep), the North Eastern gorge (ca.100 m long and very narrow) and the more modest Western gorge. The whole itinerary takes about 3 hours, it's not difficult and there are different alternatives. The Orridi are the result of the erosion of the glacier and offer the possibility to travel back to another geological era, ca. 14.000 years ago. The day continues with the visit to the town of Baceno and the church of San Gaudenzio.
On the way back, we will stop at the Cosasca farm, where brown cows are bred and where 'animal welfare' is an essential condition. Guided tour of the stables and the dairy factory/lab, followed by tasting of the excellent cheeses accompanied by local wines.
Day 5: Cultural trekking in the Vigezzo Valley also known as the Painters' Valley
After a hearty breakfast, start your journey towards the mountains of Lake Maggiore accompanied by an experienced guide. Your destination today will be the romantic Painters' Valley. You will reach the village of Santa Maria Maggiore, intact in its wonderful mountain architecture and home to several museums: the "Rossetti Valentini" School of Fine Arts, the Chimney Sweep Museum and the "Perfume House" dedicated to the inventor of eau de Cologne who was born in this valley. From the town of Santa Maria Maggiore begin two cultural treks dedicated to the great Vigezzo painters "Carlo Fornara" and "Giovanni Battista Ciolina" that accompany you in your search for the landscapes depicted by the painters in their most famous works.
