Art and music on the shores of Lake Maggiore
Enchanting landscapes and beautiful music are combined in this holiday by the shores of Lake Maggiore.
Visit Stresa for the International Music Festival and let yourself be carried away by the magical atmosphere of the Stresa Music Weeks and the concerts, which will be held in exceptionally beautiful venues such as churches, famous buildings or old monasteries.
Day 1: Arrival at the hotel, evening meal and overnight stay.
Day 2: This morning we will visit the Borromeo Islands. We will visit Isola Bella with its incredible baroque mansion and Italian gardens with their 10 terraces overlooking the lake. We will then go to Isola dei Pescatori (“fishermen's island”) that owes its name to the trade of its inhabitants. This island, with its medieval charm, narrow streets and the view of the lake is difficult to forget. Lunch in a typical restaurant on the Borromean islands. We will return to the hotel in the afternoon, to relax or go for a walk along the lakefront. In the evening we will go to one of the festival's concerts. One of the festival’s special features, besides the skills of the participating musicians, is the uniqueness of the venues (such as Isola Bella o S. Caterina del Sasso). We will return to the hotel late in the evening.
Day 3: Today's trip (late in the morning) will take us the most romantic of Italy's lakes: lake Orta. The town of Orta S. Giulio will charm us with its historical beauty, ancient houses decorated with frescoes and narrow medieval roads. Above the town is the Sacred Mount, where many chapels tell of the life of St Francis. An order of enclosed nuns lives on Isola di San Giulio, a small island. It is shrouded in mystery and can only be reached by ferry (which leaves from the town's main square). By the lake is Quarna, a small town famous for the wind instruments built here. If the group is particularly interested, we can arrange for a visit to the museum.
Day 4: today is dedicated entirely to discovering music in Milan. With a local guide you will discover the courtyards of the "Castello Sforzesco" and you will enjoy a panoramic bus tour in the town's centre to the famous La Scala Theatre. Visit to La bScala Museum, where a variety of paintings related to opera and theatre, scenographic sketches, letters, portraits, autographs and ancient musical instruments are preserved. From here you will continue with a pleasant walk to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, made of iron and glass, and to Piazza Duomo. At the end of the visit, free time in the city center and return to the lake.
