CLASSIC TOUR OF PIEDMONT
History, art, tradition and flavours come together in this itinerary to discover Piedmont and its lands.
From the Langhe to the Monferrato, from rural landscapes to large city centres, we will explore this splendid region. We will visit museums and grand palaces in and around Turin, such as the famous royal family residence of Stupinigi, and enjoy the beautiful landscapes of Lower Piedmont.
Day 1: arrival at the hotel, check-in and dinner
Day 2: The day begins with a panoramic tour through the hilly landscape of southern Piedmont to Barolo where we visit the ancient palace of the Marchesi Falletti di Barolo, home of the WIMU, an innovative museum dedicated to wine. This is not an exhibition of bottles with faded labels but a true emotional journey into the history, culture and tradition of wine. A tasting of an excellent Barolo in one of the many local cellars is a must. The afternoon continues with a guided tour of Alba, capital of the Langhe and home of the delicious Nutella. Every October the famous Truffle Fair is organised here, known especially for the market where you can buy the precious tubers directly from the Trifulau
Day 3: Turin. Visit of the city which, unlike any others in Italy, has undergone a transformation and restyling of its image. From a grey industrial town, it has evolved into a vivacious cultural and touristic centre with innovative museums and antique palaces which have been restored to their former splendor (the Venaria, the Royal Palace etc.)
In the afternoon we reach Stupinigi to visit the majestic residence erected by the Savoy family in 1700, an architectural jewel that is well worth a visit and has recently been renovated
Day 4: Asti. Today we discover the ancient seat of the Lombard Duchy of Asti, one of the most important centre of the commerce between the 12th and 13th centuries, when its merchants developed trade throughout Europe. Also famous is its historic Palio, one of the oldest events in Italy, which takes place in September and culminates with a mounted horse race. The town is also known for its wines, in particular Asti spumante and the famous Barbera d'Asti. In the afternoon, transfer to the cradle of Spumante production and visit of a wine cellar with tasting.
