THE FRAGRANCES OF PIEDMONT
Our tour begins in the hills of Asti in search of the prized truffles, continues in the lands of the Langhe, home of famous wines such as Barolo and Barbaresco, and ends in the plains of Vercelli to learn the secrets of rice production.
Day 1: arrival at the hotel, accommodation in rooms, dinner and overnight stay
Day 2: a very special experience awaits us today: with a "Trifulau" we will go in search of the precious tubers in the Asti countryside. It is certainly special to see the dogs running and sniffing the ground for truffles. The white truffle of Alba is the best known and most prized and is found mainly in the autumn months; throughout the year, however, black truffles can be found. After the hunt, a small buffet with tasting of typical Piedmontese products and continuation towards the centre of Asti. The city of a hundred towers awaits us for a visit of the historic centre
Day 3: The day begins with a guided tour of Alba, capital of the Langhe and home of the delicious Nutella. Every October the famous Truffle Fair is organised here: the market atmosphere is very beautiful and special; the precious tubers are bought directly from the Trifulau. In the afternoon, we then travel through the hilly landscape of the Langhe and pass through villages that are known throughout the world for having given their names to famous wines: Barolo, Barbaresco, etc.
A stop is organised in one of these villages to visit a winery where these fine wines are produced.
Day 4: Turin. Visit to the city that, more than any other in Italy in recent years, has carried out a restyling of its image and more. From a grey industrial city, it has in fact evolved into an active cultural and tourist centre with splendid and innovative museums and ancient palaces that have regained their original splendour (Venaria, Palazzo Reale, etc). Surely a single day is too little for a visit to the first capital of Italy, but it will certainly succeed in making us understand the importance that this centre has had and has in our territory. During the day, you cannot miss tasting one of Turin's most famous specialities: the Bicerin. It is a special drink made of coffee, chocolate and milk cream and must absolutely be consumed in one of the historic bars in Turin's famous quadrilateral.
Day 5: Visit Vercelli.
An ancient Roman centre site, it represents the real city of the plains in our days; the capital of a rich agricultural province, it has a very important historical centre with many churches, archives, monuments and old houses. After a guided tour of the centre we will reach a rice field; here we will discover the secrets of rice production as we get from the plant to the grain of rice presented on our plate. This is followed by a tasting of different types of risotto to better appreciate the different qualities and flavors.
